Highlights

The January issue of “Hydro” is online. The special coverage “Slurry treatment”, on page 16, is the main focus of this issue, showing that landfills generate a high volume of manure, a toxic substance that can contaminate soils and water bodies if not properly treated. And how Brazil faces this question, what projects are being carried out and what technologies are indicated for the application. See on page 24 the article “Direct drinking water reuse”, which points out that direct drinking water reuse is not dependent on rainfall, may be cheaper than desalination and is very sustainable, allowing more water to remain in the environment and be preserved for future uses, while also meeting water requirements. Furthermore, on page 34, the article “Metal reservoirs” reports on the implementation of seven new bolted steel tanks at Sabesp, between 2014 and 2016, and several technical questions learned during the construction works. This issue brings also the new “Piping & fittings for buildings” buyers’ guide and the updated “Engineering, contracting & service companies directory” and “Sludge dewatering and drying” buyers’ guide.
