Highlights

The September/October issue of “Plástico Industrial” is online. The article “Big data in control: film barrier properties predicting by data analysis”, on page 18, shows that many properties of films and extruded plastic products can be well modeled, predicted and adjusted with the help of data analysis tools, in a structured approach. This can help to reduce waste and significantly lower production costs. See on page 28 the article “PET preforms hot runner optimizing”, showing that PET resin is particularly demanding during its processing, since it undergoes rapid thermal and mechanical degradation. This justifies care in determining an appropriate system of hot channels, which promotes the improvement of the quality of preforms made with this material. Read on page 46, in the special chapter “O plástico na embalagem” (plastics application in the package industry), the news “The antiviral nanocomposite material for EPS packaging”, on the development, by a Santa Catarina company, of a nanocomposite material that gives antiviral and antibacterial properties to its line of packaging made from expanded polystyrene (EPS). This issue brings also the new “Cooling systems”, “Plastic recyclers’ - Equipment, auxiliary, additives” and “Resin handling systems” buyers’ guides.
