Highlights

The June/July issue of “Plástico Industrial” is online. Check it out in the article “Companies in the injection sector invest in automation and digital technologies”, on page 12, that the new research on injection plastics converters reveals an increase in the use of robotic systems, additive manufacturing (3D printing) and investments in digital technologies that enable industry 4.0, in addition to a directory of companies that work in this area with their specialties and factory floor structure. See on page 18 the article “Topology optimization as a strategy to develop sustainable plastic components”, showing that sustainability in plastics engineering starts already in the design stage of the parts, when it is planned to use the amount of material strictly necessary to guarantee its performance. Furthermore, on page 26, the article “Research aims to develop packaging from the orange peel albedo”, showing that the pectin present in the orange peel albedo is an alternative for the manufacture of bioplastics. Unlike sources such as corn starch or cassava, it can be obtained from a by-product that is discarded in significant quantities in the Brazilian production of orange juice. This issue also brings the update “Masterbatches, pigments and dyes”, “Purging agents” and “Pick and place robots in IMM” buyers’ guides.
